When you think about building the home of your dreams, you want to have a team you can trust and are confident can achieve that goal. At the same time, there are many other considerations to make, such as the scope of the project, what you want to achieve in the end result, and most especially, how much it will cost.

If you have a custom project in mind, it is always best to have your plans laid out in front of you first. Who do you turn to handle that for you? Some people may choose to have an architect draw up their plans while others may want to consult first with remodeling contractors. Post & Beam Design/Build can help you pinpoint what would be the right option for you.

The Pros and Cons of Hiring Architects

Architects are designers by craft. They are the ones who design the plans and put together an image of what you the client would hope to see. The design they present to clients can be anything from hand-drawn sketches to computer-generated imagery.

One of the largest drawbacks to this is that many of the plans that do not make it past this stage. Building plans halt because the size of the project may be too large for the budget. Many factors can hinder the project’s development and inflate the cost, such as heating and air conditioning, remodeling certain areas, and testing for hazardous materials, as examples.

Architects will often charge for their services before beginning a project, so typically homeowners will pay for the entire project upfront. If a project does not come to pass, then you may not be able to ask the architect for a refund.
